Tour De France Stage 5 goes from Lorient to Quimper (204.5 km) and resembles a hilly Ardennes classic, with the final kilometre at a gradient of 4.8%. TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 5 BETTING PREVIEW
Stage 5 starts at Lorient with a small downhill path and ends in Quimper with a short hill climb. There are five notable hill climbs of categories four and three. While they can’t be called mountains, these elevations are still considerable. The course profile resembles a hilly Ardennes classic, and the final half of the 204.5K stage will keep the riders either climbing or descending Brittany’s twisting, narrow roads. The focus will be on Ménez Quélerc'h, a very famous 2.9km straight climb in Breton cycling. Technically, it suits Peter Sagan to perfection. But it's also a day for the GC favourites to avoid any hiccups.Classics riders such as Greg Van Avermaet, Peter Sagan and Michael Matthews

will be the men to watch on Wednesday. GVA will have the extra-motivations given by the yellow Jersey. The Slovakian enters this stage on the back of a runner-up finish to Fernando Gaviria on Tuesday and an impressive win on Stage 2 sprint.Philippe Gilbert currently sits in fourth place overall, only 5 seconds behind Greg Van Avermaet. He has won every Ardennes Classic at least once in his career, and could try to win the stage and take the yellow jersey too.
His Quick-Step teammate, Julian Alaphilippe, sits only 2 seconds behind him and is another big threat for the yellow jersey — especially since BMC has a GC contender to protect in Richie Porte. The Frenchman has won similar stages in the last few Tour De France editions.
Fernando Gaviria is a big question mark. He is the fastest sprinter in the peloton, but will he keep the pace of the best classics riders in the final climb?
Arnaud Démare was a bit disapponting on STAGE 5 but he can't be ruled out for this kind of uphill arrivals while Sonny Colbrelli has already shown he has good legs with a runner-up finish on Stage 2. The Italian can certainly be a serious contender in this uphill sprint.
Tour De France Stage 5 Betting Tips 2020
Gorka Izagirre, Michal Kwiatkowski are John Degenkolb other dark horses. And keep an eye on Alejandro Valverde, who has dominated the Ardennes Classics for a decade.
Daniel Martin is one of the most backed riders but we expect him to save his legs for the upcoming stages where he should have more chances to win.

With stage one set to take place on Saturday, we’ve picked out our Tour de France 2019 predictions for the leading betting markets on this iconic contest.
The 106th edition of cycling’s blue riband event will depart in Brussels and finish on the Champs-Elysees in Paris on July 28.
Two British legends will be absent, with Chris Froome injured and Mark Cavendish not selected by his team, but here’s our top predictions from the Tour de France 2019 odds:
Tour De France Stage 5 Betting Tips 2019
Outright winner – Egan Bernal @ 7/4
Geraint Thomas was a surprise winner for Britain 12 months ago and has obvious claims of retaining the title, with runner-up Tom Dumoulin and third-placed Froome sidelined this time around. However, Thomas also heads into this event under a cloud after crashing out of the recent Tour de Suisse, which was eventually won in convincing fashion by Ineos team-mate Bernal. The official party line is that both riders will compete on an even footing here, but the 22-year-old Colombian is definitely the man on the rise and seems better equipped to establish his superiority over Thomas in the mountain stages.
Points classification – Peter Sagan @ 9/20
The Slovakian speedster made it six green jersey triumphs in seven years last term, having only lost out by being disqualified for dangerous riding 12 months earlier. Peter the Great will have the full support of a hard-working Bora-Hansgrohe team and has the all-round ability to compete for more prizes than most other sprinters. His form has been less convincing this season, with a run of three straight World Road Race Championship wins halted by Alejandro Valverde, but a recent Tour de Suisse success showed his well-being and the 29-year-old continues to look a cut above the rest.
King of the Mountains – Warren Barguil @ 11/2
Julian Alaphilippe dominated this classification last year, but we’re hoping Barguil can win back the polka dot jersey this season. The Frenchman was an emphatic winner in 2017 when riding for Team Sunweb, picking up two individual stages and also the combativity award. After switching to a new set-up last term, Barguil could only manage a distant second place, but the Arkea-Samsic team has been built around him and everything should be spot on after a French national road race victory.
